Study with a positive opinion from the Bioethics Committee of the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice

We are delighted to announce that our nationwide study of children's and young people's resilience has received a positive opinion from the Bioethics Committee of the Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.

This means that the project has been assessed as compliant with the applicable ethical and scientific standards for research involving minors. It confirms that both the methodology and the way the study is conducted guarantee the safety, anonymity and respect for the rights of all pupils taking part in the project.

We thank the Bioethics Committee of the Academy of Physical Education for its trust, and all our partners and schools for their cooperation.
Together we are creating a reliable, valuable and ethical study that will help us better understand the needs of young people in our region.

Because every child has potential. Let's help them discover and develop it.

Every day, children and young people learn to cope with change, emotions and challenges in relationships and at school. What helps them most is psychological resilience – the ability to find strength within, look for solutions and regain balance even after difficult moments.

And this is exactly the skill we want to support and develop. That is why we are launching a new edition of the psychological resilience study in Polish schools.

What is psychological resilience?

What is psychological
resilience?

Psychological resilience is something that can be built –just like muscles. It is:

  • the ability to cope with stress and emotions,
  • self-esteem,
  • openness to new experiences,
  • a positive outlook on the future,
  • seeking support when we need it.

Why
strengthen it?

Children and young people who develop these skills:

  • get on better in relationships with others,
  • take on challenges more easily,
  • are able to talk about their feelings and needs,
  • are more self-confident and helpful towards others.
  • show lower levels of depressive symptoms and a lower tendency towards problem behaviour,
  • are less likely to use psychoactive substances.

Why
do we conduct research?

We want to understand what already works and how it can be strengthened. The study is a diagnostic tool, but also an inspiration for action.
Thanks to it:

  • schools learn about their pupils' strengths and needs,
  • they receive ready-made tools that support the development of resilience,
  • they can introduce activities that genuinely improve pupils' well-being,
  • they become part of a network of schools sharing good practice, building the foundation of the SKILLFUL SCHOOLS programme.

We are continuing – because we already know it works!

In the previous edition of the study we created a programme for developing psychological resilience, based on what children and young people found genuinely helpful.
‍
Two workshops were developed – ready to run in any class. The workshops help ‍ build a positive self-image, develop optimism and a sense of agency, and support openness, empathy and resistance to peer pressure.
‍
The workshop scripts are available to schools taking part in the study.

Organisational information

What does a school gain by joining the study?

  • free access to a diagnostic tool,
  • a report on resilience levels at the regional (voivodeship) level,
  • access to educational materials and workshop scenarios,
  • participation in building a network of supportive facilities in the region,
  • the chance to implement innovative and proven solutions in working with pupils as part of the Skillful School programme,
  • access to development recommendations, which we plan to launch in October 2026.

How to join the study?

It's very simple. Just fill in the application form below and your school will soon join a programme that strengthens the potential of children and young people.

A school can be registered for the study by the head teacher or by a member of staff who has obtained the head teacher's consent for the school to take part.

Who can take part
in the study?
‍

We invite children and young people aged 10-18 to take part in the study.

When and how will the study take place?

Following a decision of the Bioethics Committee, we have obtained approval to extend and prolong the project. The study is now being carried out as the Nationwide study of the psychological resilience of children and young people, on a continuous basis until 2031.The project is a long-term monitoring programme; each year a report is published summarising the results for the completed research year.

Recruitment of schools takes place cyclically in each school year, during the period:
1 October – 20 June
The study is carried out in schools during the period:
1 October – 30 June
The results are published in October and cover data from the previous research year.
This format makes it possible to monitor changes over time on an ongoing basis and to better match support activities to the real needs of pupils and teachers.

THE CURRENT STUDY will take place from
1 October 2026 – 30 June 2027

It will be an online survey, available on both computers and mobile phones.

This means pupils will be able to complete the questionnaire at any convenient time and place at school (e.g. during a form period or an IT lesson).

Links to the study will be sent to the study coordinators appointed by the school, to the e-mail address given in the application form.

Information on the publication of the study results

The results of the 1st EDITION of the psychological resilience study will be presented at the level of the Silesian Voivodeship.
‍
This will make it possible to identify regional trends and areas in need of support – without naming specific facilities.

‍The results of individual schools will not be made public. However, schools taking part in the study will be able to apply for an individual report for their facility.

Depending on the number of applications and the organisational resources available, the Foundation reserves the right to charge for this service – if it exceeds what is provided for in the current project budget. We will keep schools informed about the application procedure and any costs after the main part of the study has been completed.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about the study of the psychological resilience of children and young people

1. Is taking part in the study safe for my child?

Yes. The study was prepared by specialists on the basis of a proven psychometric tool. The survey contains questions about well-being, self-perception and social relationships – it contains no sensitive, unethical or diagnostic content. Taking part in the study carries no psychological or emotional risks. It is a form of anonymous self-assessment.

2. How is my child's data protected?

The study is completely anonymous – we do not collect first names, last names, PESEL numbers or any data that could identify the child. The data collected are analysed collectively and used solely for statistical and educational purposes. All procedures are carried out in accordance with the GDPR(General Data Protection Regulation).

3. What will happen to the study results?

The study results will be presented at the level of the Silesian Voivodeship, without naming specific schools. This will make it possible to identify regional trends and needs in the area of young people's mental health support.
Schools that take part in the study will be able to submit an application for an individual report for their facility. The Foundation reserves the right to charge for preparing such reports if the number of applications exceeds the project's budget.

4. Is my child's participation in the study compulsory?

No. Participation in the study is completely voluntary and takes place only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you do not give your consent, your child will not take part in the study.

5. Can I see the questions before my child takes part in the study?

Yes. At the request of a parent or guardian, it is possible to view the study questionnaire before it is completed. To do so, please contact the study coordinator at the school or the study leader, Agata Gemser-Wrębiak, directly: agata@fundacjaulica.pl

Let's create schools together where children and young people not only gain knowledge, but also strength, courage and self-confidence.

Because psychological resilience is something that can be built
– step by step.
