What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a way of helping based not on diagnosing problems and solving them, but on looking for the most optimal solution for the situation the client is in (solving problems vs creating solutions).

The central philosophy of the Solution-Focused Approach

If something works,
do more of it.

If it doesn't work,
do something different.

If it isn't broken,
don't fix it,
don't complicate it.

What we do and what we don't >>

We recognise the client's expertise

We regard the people we work with as experts (even if the expert is 7 years old).

We fully accept the perspective of both the child and the adult (our client).

We look for what is useful

We look for what is most useful, what works, what helps, here and now

We look for exceptions in which the problem we are facing does not occur or occurs with less intensity.

We look for those moments when things were better, so that on that basis we can find the answer to what to do now, what to maintain and what to develop.

We look for what strengthens

We direct our therapeutic effort towards seeking out and strengthening skills, potential, resources and so-called exceptions.

When working with children and young people using the KIDS’ SKILLS method, we transform the problem a child is facing into a skill they want to learn.

We do not form hypotheses

We do not create theories describing the causes of a problem (we do not dwell on why things are the way they are).

We do not make traditional diagnoses

We are not interested in diagnosis in the medical sense. We follow the client and their needs.

We do not claim to know

We do not impose the solutions and ways of coping with a situation that we think are best.

Our specialists

All our specialists are practitioners of the KIDS’ SKILLS method and educators of the SKILLFUL GROUP method, with experience of working with children and young people. Members of the professional team are therapists, or therapists in the process of certification, in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy . They have many years of experience in developmental and therapeutic work.

S110), certified Ambassador of the Kids' Skills method in Poland, Skillful Group coach, certified second-level trainer of the Polish Psychological Association (no. 473), pioneer of street work with marginalised children, young people and their families in Silesia, addiction prevention specialist, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy therapist (in the process of certification), trainer running interpersonal communication and social skills training, graduate of the Course in Working with Adolescents. Member of the international organisation ASHOKA – innovators for the public good.
Natalia Soja
Certified Kids' Skills Ambassador in Poland, Skillful Group coach, therapist in the process of certification (graduate of first- and second-level Solution-Focused Brief Therapy training), educator specialising in social rehabilitation and social prevention (University of Silesia), graduate of postgraduate studies in negotiation and mediation, as well as courses and training: Interdisciplinary course in counteracting domestic violence, Streetworking – an innovative perspective on working with people at risk of social exclusion, Motivational trainer for children and young people, Mindfulness- mindfulness training, Emotion regulation training, Emotional education in work with young children, Course in Working with Adolescents.
Agata Gemser-Wrębiak
Psychologist (AH), certified Solution-Focused Brief Therapy therapist (no. 122), Polish philologist (Jagiellonian University), certified Kids' Skills Ambassador in Poland, Skillful Group coach, trainer with many years of experience (Jagiellonian University Extension School) , certified ICF ACC coach, graduate of postgraduate studies in the psychology of social behaviour (University of Silesia) and in project management (WSE in Kraków), as well as numerous professional development courses, including the Course in Working with Adolescents.
Danuta Pajor
Psychologist, sociologist, psychotherapist (certification in progress), therapist in the process of certification in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, certified Kids' Skills ambassador in Poland, Skillful Group method coach, one of the first certified social work supervisors in Poland (No. 14/2017), family work specialist, family trainer (2008), coach (ICF Coach ACC Certificate 2015), lecturer and trainer; she has completed the Course in Working with Adolescents. 
Agnieszka Czajak
Certified Kids' Skills Ambassador in Poland, Skillful Group educator, SFBT therapist (in the process of certification). Graduate of first- and second-level Solution-Focused Brief Therapy training. She studied social and care pedagogy at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Silesia. Her key training includes: the Addiction Prevention Course at the Psychoprophylactic Society in Warsaw, the first level of the Silesian School of Trainers „Gniazdo”, and the Course in Working with Adolescents.
Sara Szturc
Kids' Skills practitioner in Poland, Skillful Group educator, art therapist (Academy of Fine Arts, University of Silesia and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice), music therapist ( Academy of Music), graduate of first- and second-level Solution-Focused Brief Therapy training, graduate of the Course in Working with Adolescents, psychology student.
